"Change the Rules of the Game"

What can the citizens do when the "rules of the game" are antiquated, ineffective, and are interpreted to allow grave injustices and the undermining of the citizens' fundamental rights to occur? The strategy itself is remarkably quite simple: Change the Rules of the Game.

The citizens have the power to enact laws and to repeal laws, just as the Legislature does. And, when laws exist that are contrary to the principles of democracy, the citizens not only have the ability, but they have the obligation to their government, society, themselves, and those of us who are fighting overseas for our freedom, to set things right.

Under current Nebraska state law, our goal of restoring democracy and local control is not possible, and entire municipalities (and soon possibly even counties) will continue to be devoured until there remains only one mega-government in Nebraska that does not represent its people. However, Citizens for a Free Nebraska is offering a unique, one-time opportunity to change all of that and to make things right again for the good of the people and the state.

A New Opportunity

Armed with a new, viable opportunity to defend the rights of citizens throughout Nebraska and to regain the City of Elkhorn's independence, the Citizens for a Free Nebraska will continue the fight to restore the principles of democracy that are the basis for all American law, and we plan to do it by utilizing the citizens’ prerogative to act as a second legislative body.

We have written, sponsored, signed, filed, and are currently circulating two statewide initiative petitions: one that would guarantee Nebraskans the right to vote before an annexation of a city or village can occur, and the other to give the citizens of any city or village that has been annexed within five years the ability to vote to detach and reestablish.

Through a statewide effort of gathering signatures from seven percent of the registered voters in the state, the people of Nebraska will be able to enact the initiatives and bring the issue to the ballot by 2010.

We are giving the citizens of Nebraska an opportunity to exercise their power to enact laws via initiative petitions in order to assert their right to vote and to force the issue of independence onto the ballot, where it belongs.

for all Nebraskans, are invited to

What Can I Do to Help?

There are so many things that you can do to help us protect the principles of democracy and your right to a representative government.

What we need immediately are volunteer circulators and financial contributions. But, as much as anything else, we also need citizens to spread the word throughout their communities and to find others who are willing to pledge their enthusiastic support.
